And we knew he was a redneck peckerwood when he was governor of Arkansas.  I
ought to know, I lived in Arkansas most of the years he was governor.
Actually many of my friends called him the worst thing you can call a white
man in Arkansas, and judging by the comment he just made, still qualifies
for the epithet.

We used to say he was the first black president because:

He’s living off federal funds
He’s always lived in government housing
His wife brings in the income.

Retirees and pensions fuel GM's downfall

GM had about 240,000 workers the day it filed for bankruptcy but had
responsibility for the health care of more than 1 million people and
owed pensions to more than 650,000. Even with GM’s very real product and
work-rule strides of recent years, these obligations made bankruptcy
inevitable.

{OT} When it's perfectly fine to be a Liberal

When you’re challenging Imadummyjahn for the Presidency…

TEHRAN, Iran – Iran’s state television said Monday that the supreme
leader ordered an investigation into claims of fraud in last week’s
presidential election.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered the powerful Guardian Council to examine
the allegations by pro-reform candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, who has
claimed widespread vote rigging in Friday’s election.

{OT} election probe

They should send Jimmy Carter there to monitor the recounts.

————————–

TEHRAN, Iran – Iran’s supreme leader ordered Monday an investigation
into allegations of election fraud, marking a stunning turnaround by
the country’s most powerful figure and offering hope to opposition
forces who have waged street clashes to protest the re-election of
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

State television quoted Ayatollah Ali Khamenei directing a high-level
clerical panel, the Guardian Council, to look into charges by
pro-reform candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi, who has said he is the
rightful winner of Friday’s presidential election.

{OT} Obama putting on a damn good speech

   Thanks to Bush and Cheney for making it possible.   I didn’t vote for
Obama but he’s shown more concern for my kids and grandkids than
Bush/Cheney ever did.  I might not fare so well but I don’t mind
sacrificing for the future of the country and future generations.
   He has a hell of a good grasp on reality.

{OT} America’s Sea of Red Ink Was Years in the Making

This country reminds me of the automakers, way to much legacy costs. As
they say the problems with a democracy is that the people learn they can
vote themselves into prosperity.
   ~~~~~~~~~~~
"Alan Auerbach, an economist at the University of California, Berkeley,
and an author of a widely cited study on the dangers of the current
deficits, describes the situation like so: “Bush behaved incredibly
irresponsibly for eight years. On the one hand, it might seem unfair for
people to blame Obama for not fixing it. On the other hand, he’s not
fixing it.”
  The solution, though, is no mystery. It will involve some combination
of tax increases and spending cuts. And it won’t be limited to
pay-as-you-go rules, tax increases on somebody else, or a crackdown on
waste, fraud and abuse. Your taxes will probably go up, and some
government programs you favor will become less generous."
