93 Camry: strange electrical problem

My 93 Camry recently started itermittently lighting the light on the
instrument panel that is supposed to indicate that either a tail lamp or
brake lamp is out. However, all of the lamps are fine.  Now, when I step on
the brake, the transmission "R" reverse indicator lamp on the instrument
panel comes on. However, the backup lamps are not on.  Can these be related?
Do I have a short in the wiring harness?  If anyone has any ideas or has
experienced a similar problem, I’d appreciate your help.

Does anybody have any "tricks" to make the installation of a cressida
fuel filter any easier?  I looked at it last night and it seems to be in the
worst possible place.  Thanks in advance.

Help!!

I have an ’80 Corolla with a manual transmission.  Very rusty, but
still running well.
It needs new tires, and I’m at a loss as what to buy:  Pirellis?
Michelins? Toyos?  Are they really better than other  makes, or just
more expensive?
We live in the country where the roads litterally turn to ice in
winter, so  I want the best grip possible.
Also, any advice on how to best prepare my car for our harsh Canadian
winter would be much appreciated.
(Can you telll I’m new at this???)
TIA

slight vibration in 97 corolla – normal?

Sorry if this is posted twice.

I just got a 97 Corolla DX. It drives great and I love it! … except for
this slight vibration that I feel in the steering wheel when I’m driving. Is
this normal or is this a cause for concern? This vibration is kinda like
engine vibration, and it feels weird because I didn’t feel it in (the
steering wheel of) my last car – a 94 Acura Integra. I didn’t take it to a
mechanic before the purchase. I bought the car from a reputable car rental
company. (yes it used to be a rental car). Can anyone tell me if this is
normal for a Corolla?

Also, I was looking in the maintenance manual, and it only has maintenance
info for up to 120,000 miles. Does that mean the car is rendered useless
after that??? How long can I expect this car to last?

Thanks.

What are the early signs CV joint wear?

I have an ’87 Toyota Tercel 2WD wagon. Sometimes when I take a corner at
about 20 mph I hear a sort of "dut dut dut" sound coming from the front end,
and I’m wondering if the CV joints are starting to wear. The frustrating
thing is that I have driven it with a mechanic along twice and have been
unable to reproduce the noise for him. He says that if it is that hard to
make the noise, then it must not be a big problem, and if it is the CV
joints, the noise will occur more frequently before it becomes any kind of
dangerous situation. I am looking for any additional information about CV
joint wear: what to watch for, is there any way to slow the wear, what kinds
of noises should I be concerned about, etc? Thanks for any information.
