K&N Filters

I’m about to purchase a K&N airfilter because i’ve already ordered it.
If you have any questions to address K&N themselves don’t hold your
breath. They don’t return e-mails , and there 1-800 number is abrasive
and not any help at all!!  I hope their product is better than there
customer services.

Tech Notice – Please explain

Please explain to me  what  is the  service tech notice. Does it mean
that will fix
it for free like  in case of recall or just will look at the problem,
charging you the
same 50 an hour + parts

Does service tech notice put any obligation on dealers

Thanks,

Garry, ’95 MaxSE

mildew smell, 96 corolla

Just wondering how to get rid of a funny
smell in the vent system of a Corolla…

Should it be enough to blast the heater
for a long time, or is there somewhere to
get in and clean out/spray disinfectant
etc?

Thanks in advance

Bleeding brakes

I’ve got a 1984 Totota truck (xtra cab, not 4X4) and just changed the master
cylinder.  I’ve bled the heck out of it (starting with wheel farthest from
driver, etc.) and the pedal still goes to the floor and the car won’t stop
unless I double-pump the pedal.  Of course, this is not quite as safe as I’d
like it to be. I did the bleeding with a helper pumping the pedal.  Anyone
know any tricks to flushing out a stubborn bubble?  Thanks

Left front speaker removal in Camry 92 XLE

Hi all,

Any one knows how to remove or has replaced the left front speaker, please let
me know.  Also if you know an after market speaker which can fit right in,
please leave the brand name (I hope this is cheaper than the factory speaker).
Thank you.

Re: HELP: Supra Twin Turbo – limited slip diff? positraction?

Limited slip mainly helps when you get stuck somewhere.  If you get
stuck in the mud or snow with a rear wheel drive with a standard
differential one rear wheel will spin while the other just sits there.
A limited slip will prevent this.  For example it might ensure that for
every one revolution of one wheel there is at least half a revolution of
the other wheel.  This should help you to get out in most cases, but
both wheels could sit there and spin.

I don’t think it would make any difference when skidding since the
wheels would be locked up by the brakes anyway but I could be wrong.  It
might effect driving though if you take a corner really hard.  When
taking a corner the inside wheel will rotate less – in the example above
if it needed to rotate less than a half because of a tight corner the
limited slip would still make it rotate a half in which case there may
be some slipping or squealing on the payment for that tire.  I don’t
know if this is possible though – limited slips may not have the 1/2 to
1 ratio and it might not be possible for the car to do this due to the
turning ratio limitations of the car.

Don’t know if the above it all true – I’ve never had a vehicle with
one.  Hopefully will be getting a truck soon with one though :)

Some systems accomplish similar things by using the brakes on one tire
at a time.  I’ve seen some systems that all it really does is start the
car in 2nd to avoid torque spin (Saturn?).  Not sure what positraction
is – different companies may mean different things.

smoking tail-pipe and engine hesitation–93 Camry V6 XLE

5 months ago, I noticed some smoke emerging from my tail-pipe during startup.
It would last about 10 minutes and then disappear.  This happened regardless of
time of day or weather.

The car also started to hestitate and lose power.  It would kick in with such a
jerk that a pedestrian can see the entire car jerk into gear.

I’ve taken it to three different mechanics who can’t pinpoint the cause of
these problems.  I’ve undergone a tune-up, oil changes, tranmission flushes and
the requisite sensor checks.  And I’m still having these performance and
drivability problems.

Can anyone suggest anything else I should be looking at?

Thank you!

'98 Corolla Rack End Squeak

A while ago I posted a ,wav file of a squeak occuring in the front
passenger side of my ’98 Corolla. The problem turned out to be an
unlubricated inboard steering rack end joint. The dealer replaced the
passenger side rack end (the rod that connects the rack to the steering
knuckle).
